Accessibility Standards
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities.
- Perceivable: Information is presentable in ways users can perceive
- Operable: Interface components are operable by all users
- Understandable: Information and operation are understandable
- Robust: Content is robust enough for assistive technologies
Accessibility Features
- Keyboard navigation support throughout the site
- Skip-to-content links for screen reader users
- Semantic HTML structure with proper heading hierarchy
- ARIA labels and landmarks for assistive technologies
- Alt text for images and visual content
- Sufficient color contrast ratios
- Resizable text without loss of functionality
- Focus indicators for interactive elements
- Dark mode support for light sensitivity
Automated Testing
FairVisitHealth employs automated accessibility testing as part of our continuous integration pipeline:
- axe-core WCAG 2.1 Level AA scans run on every code change across 12+ critical pages
- Color contrast verification with a maximum threshold of 3 permitted violations
- Keyboard navigation and ARIA compliance checks
- Form accessibility validation (labels, associated controls)
- Focus management and modal dialog trap testing
These automated checks supplement our manual accessibility reviews and user testing.
Recent Accessibility Audit (February 2026)
Audit Completed — February 26, 2026
A comprehensive internal accessibility audit was performed covering all 573 React components, 12+ critical pages with automated axe-core WCAG 2.1 AA scans, keyboard-only navigation testing, and screen reader verification (NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack).
- 34 of 38 WCAG criteria now fully supported (up from 33)
- Keyboard handlers added to 6 interactive elements across 4 files
- Section 508 302.7 (Limited Manipulation) upgraded to "Supports"
- VPAT updated to v2.1 with all findings and remediations documented
Known Limitations
We recognize that some areas of our site may not yet be fully accessible. We are actively working to address these issues:
- Two supplementary marketing videos lack synchronized captions (targeted Q2 2026)
- Some older PDF documents may not be fully accessible
- Third-party embedded content may have varying accessibility levels
- Interactive maps may require keyboard navigation improvements
Remediation timeline: We are actively working to resolve these limitations. Video captions and PDF accessibility improvements are targeted for Q2 2026, map keyboard navigation for Q3 2026. Third-party content accessibility is addressed as vendors provide updates.
