Hospital Price Transparency
Access published cash prices from hospitals across the nation. Federal law requires hospitals to make their pricing publicly available—we've aggregated the links for you.
Machine-Readable Files
MRF files contain detailed pricing data that you can download and analyze. Look for your CPT code to find exact procedure costs.
Federal Requirement
Under CMS rules (45 CFR 180), hospitals must publish their standard charges. This includes cash prices, insurer rates, and more.
Save Money
Compare prices across hospitals before your visit. Cash prices are often 40-70% lower than insurance "list prices."
How to Use Hospital Price Data
1. Find Your CPT Code
Ask your doctor for the CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) code for your procedure. Common examples: 70553 (MRI brain), 99213 (office visit), 29881 (knee arthroscopy).
2. Download the MRF
Click the "View Prices" button to download the hospital's machine-readable file. These are usually large JSON or CSV files.
3. Search for Your Code
Open the file in a spreadsheet program or text editor and search (Ctrl+F / Cmd+F) for your CPT code to find the listed prices.
4. Compare Cash vs. Insurance
Look for "gross_charge" (list price), "cash_price" or "discounted_cash_price", and "negotiated_rate" (what insurers pay).
